COPPERAS COVE – A new superintendent has been approved and is set to take the reins.

Tuesday evening, during a special meeting of the CCISD Board of Trustees, trustees unanimously approved the contract for and hiring of Dr. Brent Hawkins as the district’s new top leader.

“I could not be more excited to join the Bulldawg family as the new superintendent in Copperas Cove ISD,” Hawkins said. “I appreciate the Board of Trustees for trusting me to lead the district moving forward, continuing the great work that has taken place here already. I look forward to meeting our community in the near future and continuing the work alongside every single person to make Copperas Cove ISD the premier school district in the state of Texas. We have a lot of work to do to ensure a great education and a brand that our entire community can be proud of, and I look forward to hitting the ground running on Wednesday morning.”

Hawkins, who comes to Copperas Cove from Livingston ISD, will begin serving in his role with CCISD immediately.

“We are extremely excited to have Dr. Hawkins and his family join us in Copperas Cove to take over as superintendent,” said Board of Trustees president Joan Manning. “We look forward to our community getting the opportunity to meet him and seeing the great work to come as superintendent.”

During its regular meeting, which immediately followed Tuesday evening, trustees approved the annual financial audit for the 2023-24 fiscal year, which ended Aug. 31st.

Singleton, Clark & Company completed its audit of the district’s financials, required by law, and provided the trustees with its findings, which included that the district’s fund balance remains around 4-1/2 months of expenses, just above the legally required 3 months.

The board also approved replacement of cameras in special education classrooms across the district, to cycle out aging equipment.

Additionally, the board reviewed a progress report on the district’s efforts to add security fencing at several district campuses and facilities.

The board is next scheduled to hold its regular February workshop and meeting. The workshop is scheduled for Feb. 10th and the regular meeting for Feb. 11th, both in the Board Room located at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street.

Agendas for all board meetings are posted outside the CCISD Service & Training Center 72 hours prior to the meeting. Once posted, they can be viewed at CCISD.com/SchoolBoard.
